Octobrt 2006 Executive Vice-President's Report |
|
We are still seeing many grievances and doing a good job at keeping to our timelines. The Company on the other hand is still not as timely as I would like to see it. Unfortunately as I have said before we don’t have much leverage in regards to that. We have at least half a dozen grievances regarding QJD. I think we will see the number of performance related grievances rise sharply in most departments since they all seem to be changing and adding additional matrixes without doing anything to help the members achieve the goals. Funny how that works… We had to replace the server for the network and the website the other one was far passed its lifespan and one of the hard drives was defunct. Fortunately the new one was installed before any loss of data and seems to be working well. The primary’s are passed and now is the time to focus on the general election coming up. I want to thank all those that came out to do Labor to Neighbor and phone banking. One candidate even expressed gratitude for how much volunteer time CWA was putting in. We will be doing more of those activities for the upcoming election and will need more volunteers. Remember every vote counts and just takes one to remember the last Governor’s election to bring home that point. The budget Committee has met and come up with a budget proposal for the next fiscal year. I was reviewing previous budget reports to see the history and realized just a few short years ago the budget was 1.1 million and now it is about half of that. Each year some costs increase others stay the same. So it was extremely difficult this year to come to a budget that reflects the three sides of the triangle and of course maintaining representation for the members. Our biggest fixed cost is of course the building we rent and we really can’t reduce that but we have marked it as an action item to look for another cost effective building and move when the lease on this building expires in July. Earlier this year the Local developed a list of 10 goals for the Local. Organizing and training are among those goals. Monies were budgeted to provide more training to assist in achieving those goals. I would like to recognize the Organizing Chair Charles Thomas and wish him luck in the coming year in his goals of organizing new members for the Local. If there are any members who wish to be involved in this committee please contact Charles. Organizing in these times are very difficult with uncertain outcomes so the committee will need as much support as they can get. I would also like to send kudo’s to the AVP’s for their continued hard work as well as the various committee chairs. Our committee’s are doing great things and are growing by leaps and bounds so hopefully we will see the effect of all that in the short run by helping in the community and supporting causes important to our members.
