10-26-07 Equity Committee Meeting Minutes for October In attendance: Naiela Long, Alea Espina, Sharon Goff, Karen Thompson, Amber Holland, Joan Huey, Michael Lynch, Paul Green, Dean Sparks, Tommy Streets, Franklin Johnson, Ray Gonzales, Maria Swycaffer Tashina Traylor and Rafenia Jefferies are excused 1. Welcomed Maria (Ria) Swycaffer as our newest committee member 2. Holiday Gathering will be at Touchdowns Sports bar in Renton December 15 from 7pm till whenever. There are local hotels in Renton where you can stay if needed. Address to Touchdown’s is 423 Airport Way Renton, WA. Directions follow minutes. 3. Review of minutes: Alea questioned what to do with the candy we collect over Halloween per Dean’s request. Naiela advised bring candy to her in room 17-9 or Dean on the 10th floor. Minutes accepted 4. Meeting Coordinator and secretary interests Still in need of a coordinator to stand in for Naiela when she is out of town, 2 people have shown interest neither was in attendance at meeting. Sharon Goff volunteered as secretary. 5. Multifaith works Naiela and Dean gave wonderful reports of their training for Multifaith Works on October 13. Both advised that it would be a beneficial experience for everyone, even if you choose not to be on a care team. Both also advised CWA is the only union involved so far. A training is in works to be set up specifically for CWA if we can get enough volunteers (10-15) to warrant it. 6. Budget and conferences We were advised that $5000.00 had been cut from the lump sum of the requested $15000.00 for conferences. We looked at all the proposed conferences; C B T U, APRI, Multifaith Works, National Minority Caucus, District 7 Committee on Equity, National Committee on Equity, and Pride at Work. It was decided by unanimous committee vote to remove Multifaith works, and District 7 Committee on equity. This will allow the remaining conferences to be budgeted $2000.00 each. 7. Upcoming events / Roundtable Amber spoke advising of the Women’s Committee handing out ice scraper key chains 10/26 in support of Domestic Violence awareness, invited Equity Committee to assist. Paul advised everyone to remember to Vote on November 6, or send in your absentee ballots. Absentee ballots can be delivered to voting precinct on November 6 as well. Dean spoke about buying extra candy during Halloween to donate towards the Pride parade. With 125 pounds of candy we still ran out last year. Michael advised that Raffenia Jefferies has been diagnosed with breast cancer. He is taking donations for flowers and a card. Meeting Dismissed Directions for Holiday Gathering From Southbound:
