The Union for the Information Age

Legislative Committee Meeting

January 10, 2008

Present: Jeanine Cunningham, Craig Dameron, Candi Scaiola, Martin Knapp, Dreece Murry, Amber Holland, Marlinda McCoy, David Nease

Jeanine provided an overview of the general membership meeting and encouraged everyone to attend. She provided an update on Speed Matters and advised it is SB 2559 (?) and the House Bill is not named yet. Gail Love, who is a CWA Lobbyist is walking the bill through, working on it at a Federal Level. Qwest hired lobbyists to fight the bills.

There was much discussion about staying in touch with each other and we have solved that.

Discussed the January upcoming events, WSLC (Washington State Labor Council) Lobby day and the KCLC (King County Labor Council) events.

We planned a signup table in January for a register to vote drive and a cope drive.

Good and Welfare-

Dave Nease got to hear a Barack Obama speech and said it was the “most inspiring speech I’ve ever heard a politician make”

Martin Knap is going to run for city council in Kent and has been working off and on with Karen Kaiser on a health care bill.  Would like to investigate forming a PAC and will work with Dreece on that.

If you go to http://www.opensecrets.org (I believe that is the right address) you can see where the candidates are receiving their money from.

Respectfully Submitted,

Candi Scaiola
